One Set of Carts, Five Bar Layouts: What Actually Reconfigures
Share
The selling point of a modular bar is that you buy once and shape it to whatever room you walk into. That is true, but only within limits that most guides skip over. What decides how many layouts you get is not the carts. It is the connectors that came in the box.
So here is the honest version: which layouts you can build, and exactly what each one needs.
The rule that governs everything
Carts join with connectors, and there are two kinds. A straight connector joins two carts in a line. A corner connector turns them through 90 degrees, and comes in an open version, which leaves the inside of the angle reachable, and a closed version, which gives customers an unbroken face.
Each set ships with the connectors its own layout needs and no more. A straight 2 cart set comes with one straight connector, so it cannot become an L unless you buy a corner connector. That is the single most useful thing to know before you buy, and it is why the four cart U-shape set is the genuinely flexible one: it ships with two corner connectors and two straight connectors, which is more hardware than any one of its layouts uses.
What the four cart U-shape set can become
Four carts, two corner connectors, two straight connectors. Every layout below is built from that box with nothing else bought.
1. The U
All four carts around three sides, using both corners and both straights. Several bartenders work inside a shared, centrally stocked middle, and guests approach from several directions rather than forming one queue. This is the configuration for continuous demand.
2. A four cart L
One corner connector and both straight connectors. A long leg and a short leg, which suits a room where the bar has to sit into a corner rather than stand free. You have a spare corner connector left over, so you can choose the open or closed version on the day depending on whether you need the inside of the angle reachable.
3. Two separate L-shaped bars
Both corner connectors, two carts each. Two independent stations at different points in a venue, which for a large room usually beats one big bar. Splitting the queue in two halves the wait without adding a single cart.
4. Two separate straight bars
Both straight connectors, two carts each. About 3.6 m of counter at each station. This is the layout for a venue with two natural gathering points, or for running coffee at one end of the day and drinks at the other.
5. A three cart run plus a standalone cart
Both straight connectors on three carts, roughly 5.4 m of counter, and the fourth cart standing alone as a prep station, a coffee point or a collection counter out of the main flow. This is the one people rarely think of and it is often the most practical, because the bottleneck at a busy bar is usually prep space rather than service face.
And the simplest one
Four standalone carts, no connectors, in four different places. Each still has a full 1800 x 750 mm worktop and its own storage shelf.
If you own a smaller set
A two or three cart set is not stuck, it just needs the other connector type. Tell us which shape you want to add and whether you want the open or closed corner, and we will send the right one. It is a far cheaper way to add flexibility than buying more carts.
What stays the same in every layout
Each cart is the same unit: an 1800 x 750 mm worktop with a 1000 mm centre and two 400 mm fold-out sides, carrying up to 120 kg, at 950 mm working height, with one 80 kg shelf inside. Each weighs 54 kg and packs down to 750 x 1000 x 185 mm, so a two cart bar travels in an ordinary car and a four cart bar needs a van. A multi cart bar goes up in 5 to 10 minutes with the tool in the set.
Two limits apply to every layout. The finish is water resistant rather than waterproof, so these are for indoor or covered use. And the bar is the counter, the storage and the mobility: ice wells, speed rails, fridges and POS hardware are equipment you bring, and the standard storage shelf is open, with lockable hinged or sliding doors available on request.
